Toluca, also known as Toluca de Lerdo, is the capital of Mexico State. Though the city is known today for its developed industrial sector, it was an important cultural centre during the pre-Columbian times. Situated at an altitude of 9,000 feet (2745 m), it is surrounded by picturesque settings that include the Nevado de Toluca- one of the highest volcano in the country and La Marquesa Park nestled in the beauty of the mountains.
Also known as La Bella (the beautiful) the central area of the city showcases exquisite colonial architecture belonging to the 19th century. This culturally rich city is an attractive destination to explore museums, art galleries, shopping plazas and arcades.
