British Airways has announced that it will increase the number of short-haul flights to Europe.

British Airways has announced that it will increase the number of short-haul flights to European destinations during summer 2012.

The airline will also start a new daily route from London Heathrow to Bologna, Italy. The route will start on 29 April, with tickets on sale from today (Thursday, 10 November).

Prices start from £139 return. The flights will be in addition to BA’s 20 services to Bologna from London Gatwick during the summer months.

British Airways is also increasing its services to Barcelona, Brussels, Amsterdam and Rome. The popular European hotspots will benefit from one extra service per day from London Heathrow during the peak summer season.

Prices start from £104 return to Amsterdam, £115 return to Barcelona, £144 return to Brussels, and £173 return to Rome for the 2012 summer season, which runs from 25 March until 27 October.

The extra flights mean that British Airways’ services from Heathrow to Barcelona will go up from 56 to 63 a week, from 39 to 46 a week to Brussels, to Amsterdam from 48 to 55 per week, and to Rome (Fiumicino Airport) from 42 to 49 per week.

As well as new and increased services, British Airways has also announced plans for new investment to make life more comfortable for its passengers, both in the air and on the ground.

The airline will be investing more than £5 billion over the next five years, for new aircraft, smarter cabins, and improved airport lounges.

British Airways was recently given a World Tourism Award, in recognition of its support of charities around the world. The airline invests £5 million to support more than 50 charities, both in the UK and abroad, through free flights, cargo space, and expert advice.

“We are incredibly grateful for the recognition of the part played by British Airways customers and colleagues, and we will continue to support those charities that work so hard to make a difference in the lives of so many people,” said Mary Barry, British Airways’ community investment manager.

British Airways have also recently paired up with Spotify to bring you music playlists for 5 top destinations, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Valletta (Malta), Naples and Edinburgh.
