Lufthansa and Swiss offer carbon offsetting option

Passengers on flights operated by Lufthansa and Swiss International Airlines (Swiss) now have the chance to help in tackling climate change.

The two airlines have linked up with the Switzerland based myclimate, whose online calculator will inform passengers of their carbon footprint and give them the chance to donate towards climate protection projects.

Passengers decide for themselves how much they want to pay but the money raised goes towards projects that will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and which meet stringent standards.

Wolfgang Mayrhuber, CEO and chairman of the Lufthansa Executive Board, said: “By providing a platform that enables our customers to play a part in climate protection, we are also complying with the wishes of many Lufthansa passengers who are eager to make an effective contribution to the common good.”

Myclimate is a non profit making organisation and alongside their calculator the Lufthansa and Swiss websites will provide detailed information about the different projects to which donations from passengers will go.
