On average, flying from the UK to Bosnia and Herzegovina will take 2 h 31m with a nonstop flight. However, adding a single stop can increase travel time substantially, although it may also help to reduce the cost of airfare. The most common airports for travelers from the UK to Bosnia and Herzegovina are London Heathrow and London Gatwick, but Manchester Airport also serves these travelers. The most common cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina for travelers are Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla, and Banja Luka. Sarajevo International Airport is the largest airport in the country, although there are three others with international capabilities, including Mostar International, Baja Luka International, and Tuzla International airports.
Unfortunately, there no airlines that offer direct flights from the UK to Bosnia Herzegovina. However, there are plenty of airlines that fly from the UK to the destination with a stopover or two along the way. Some of the airlines serving this route include Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Norwegian Air, Lufthansa, SAS, Swiss air, and Eurowings. Of these, Turkish, Austrian, and Lufthansa are the largest carriers.
There are several ways to get around while visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina. The most affordable is to take a bus – they run throughout the larger cities, such as Sarajevo and Dubrovnik, although they can be crowded at times. Car rentals are available at all four international airports, and local rental companies can offer affordable rates. Many travelers go from Dubrovnik to Mostar, then to Zenica and Tuzla, and finish with Sarajevo because the city offers a direct bus route back to Dubrovnik for those flying out of that airport.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a beautiful nation with plenty to see and do during a visit. Apparition Hill is a stunning religious site, as is il Monte Della Croce. The War Childhood Museum is worth a visit to appreciate the cost of the recent conflict on the nation’s youth, and Mehmed Pasa Sokolvic Bridge is always worth visiting. In Mostar, the Old Bridge area is replete with historic architecture, and in Sarajevo, the City Hall is worth exploring.
British nationals will not need a visa to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, this is only valid for periods of no more than 90 days within six months of the first date of visit (three months within a six-month period). However, you will need a passport to enter the country. It must have at least three months of validity beyond the date of entry into the country. For longer visitation periods or other needs, the Bosnia and Herzegovina embassy in London can be of assistance.
